Marvel Comics has announced Weapon X-Traction — a new series of Deadpool/Wolverine backup stories that will play out across various Marvel publications later this year.
Weapon X-Traction hails from writer Ryan North and artist Javier Garrón. According to Marvel, the team-up saga featuring the Merc With a Mouth and the Best There Is will “run across eight Marvel titles this summer as bonus backup tales.” Things kick off in July with Incredible Hulk #14. The House of Ideas also notes that, despite the added content, none of the comics featuring Weapon X-Traction chapters will be subject to price increases.

“WEAPON X-TRACTION kicks off when a weary Wolverine runs into a clingy Deadpool at a favorite watering hole,” an official synopsis reads. “From this humble beginning, they embark on an epic journey of non-friendship that will carry them across the Multiverse, battling zombies and gun-wielding librarians and — of course — one another!”
Deadpool and Wolverine have a big 2024 ahead of them
Of course, it’s no coincidence that Weapon X-Traction is kicking off in July. That month also sees the theatrical debut of Deadpool & Wolverine — the new Marvel Studios film starring X-Men franchise alums Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Like North and Garrón’s comic saga, the movie finds its eponymous characters on a journey through the multiverse. It opens on Friday, July 26 as part of Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
That said, Weapon X-Traction isn’t the only way Marvel Comics is gearing up for Deadpool and Wolverine’s return to the big screen. The publisher also recently announced Deadpool & Wolverine: WWIII — a three-issue limited series from writer Joe Kelly and artist Adam Kubert that launches in May (and presumably wraps up in July). To cap it off, Deadpool is getting a new ongoing series this April from writer Cody Ziglar and artist Rogê Antônio.
Weapon X-Traction begins in Incredible Hulk #14, on sale in July 2024.
