Marvel Comics has shared a first look inside the upcoming second issue of Peach Momoko‘s Ultimate X-Men.
Just this week, Ultimate X-Men #1 formally introduced readers to Earth-6160’s Hisako Ichiki/Armor. Next month’s issue #2 marks the first official appearance of Mei Igarashi, aka Maystorm, Hisako’s new friend and fellow mutant. At this time, Marvel has shared four unlettered preview pages, depicting Hisako and Mei’s first meeting and subsequent investigation into the shadowy figure that has been haunting them.

Momoko initially created Maystorm as a potential sidekick for the X-Men‘s Storm as part of Marvel’s New Champions Variant Cover program. Now, she stands at the forefront of mutantkind’s rebirth within the rebooted Ultimate Universe.
What to expect from Ultimate X-Men #2 – and beyond
An official synopsis for Ultimate X-Men #2 reads as follows: “THE ULTIMATE X-MEN GO BACK TO SCHOOL! High school, that is! It’s a new school year for Hisako as she tries to get a grasp on her new powers … Where she meets a cool, white-haired punk girl named Mei (A.K.A. Maystorm), who understands all too well the challenge Hisako faces. And they team up to embark on a creepy adventure to learn who is behind the creepy shadow that has been haunting — and taunting — them!”
Marvel also recently confirmed that May’s Ultimate X-Men #3 would delve into Maystorm’s origins. In addition to showing how her mutant powers manifested — and how she got her signature white hair — that issue will explain Maystorm’s connection to the original Storm, who is a major player in Bryan Hill and Stefano Caselli’s Ultimate Black Panther. (On Earth-6160, Storm and partner Erik Killmonger are freedom fighters working to liberate Africa from the brutal duo known as Moon Knight. In need of allies, they seek out the reclusive nation of Wakanda.)
