The Power Rings of the Green Lantern Corps are widely regarded at the most powerful weapons in the DC Universe. However, the power of their rings is relatively minor compared to the other creations of the Guardians of the Universe. This includes one particular artifact whose current whereabouts were confirmed in Green Lantern: War Journal #8.
Written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, with art by Montos, Green Lantern: War Journal #8 centers around the continuing threat posed by the Radiant Dead. The opening scene focuses on Caolán Sheperd, a Corps member from a parallel universe. He seeks out Guy Gardner for assistance, finding his apartment on Earth. Thankfully, while Guy is currently off-world, he is able to interact with Sheperd through a construct. What’s more, he has something in his closet that might help Sheperd.
To Sheperd’s displeasure (which is considerable after digging through Guy’s dirty laundry), the “help” turns out to be the Book of Oa. He is stunned with disbelief that such a powerful artifact should be kept in such a disrespectful place. Guy seems to acknowledge this, admitting that he isn’t exactly supposed to have it.
The Green Lantern Book of Oa Explained
First appearing in Green Lantern #188 in 1985, the Book of Oa is one of the most important artifacts created by the Guardians of the Universe. It is said to contain the complete history of the GLC and the assembled knowledge of the Guardians. One Lantern is entrusted to act as the keeper of the Book and to aid other Lanterns in gleaning knowledge from it.
Precisely how Guy Gardner came to be entrusted with the Book of Oa has yet to be explained. Certainly he’s an unlikely protector, as he is not known for being the bookish sort. On the other hand, if the Book of Oa needs to be hidden, there are few places less likely to be searched than Guy Gardner’s closet.
