Marvel Uses DC Comics President Jim Lee’s Art for Uncanny X-Men #1 Cover

Legendary comic creator Jim Lee first found fame as an artist at Marvel Comics. Today, he is the President, Publisher, and CCO of DC Comics. Despite the friendly rivalry between the two companies, Marvel is honoring his legacy with a Hidden Gem variant cover, as part of their Uncanny X-Men revamp.

The cover, depicting Rogue in the Savage Land, is not an original Jim Lee cover. It was originally produced as a pin-up for X-Men Annual Vol. 2 #1 in 1992. However, it is historically notable as the last work he produced for Marvel Comics, before leaving to help found Image Comics.

Other artists joining Jim Lee on Uncanny X-Men #1

Jim Lee is not the only great artist whose work is being utilized for the Uncanny X-Men revamp. Marvel Comics assembled an all-star team of artists for what promises to be one of the biggest books of 2024. The new series is highly anticipated, largely because of writer Gail Simone and artist David Marquez, who is drawing two covers for the premiere issue.

The relaunch will feature variants by Leinil Francis Yu, Luciano Vecchio, Stephen Segovia, Mr. Garcin, and Andy Kubert. There is a special “Disco Dazzler” cover by Pablo Villalobos, along with a Negative Space cover by John Tyler Christopher. There is also a wraparound cover by Scott Koblish.
