Dick Grayson has faced many foes in his young life as a vigilante. Many of them have sought to destroy him and everything he stands for. However, as the preview of Nightwing #116 reveals, no enemy has been so devastatingly successful in that goal as the villain called Heartless.
Written by Tom Taylor, with art by Bruno Redondo, Nightwing #116 continues the Fallen Grayson storyline. The previous issue found Nightwing ambushed by Heartless, who sought to thwart Dick Grayson’s efforts to clean up Blüdhaven. The issue ended with Dick Grayson clothed in Heartless’ costume and framed for murder. The opening of Nightwing #116 reveals the frame-up has gone further, with all his allies in the local government now accused of corruption, and their good works threatened.

Nightwing #116 sets up epic finale for legendary run
Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo have been the chief creative team on Dick Grayson’s solo book since Nightwing #78. It would be fair to say that their take on the eldest Robin has been well-received. Indeed, it may be their greatest professional success to date. That is an impressive accomplishment, given the frequent collaborators made the New York Times Bestseller’s list with their work on Injustice.
Since taking over the monthly Nightwing comic, the series has been one of DC’s best sellers, both as a monthly periodical and in trade-paperback format. The book has also been a critical darling and professionally lauded. The series has been nominated for multiple Eisner Awards for its writing and interior art. It has won the Eisners for Best Continuing Series and Best Cover Artist. Alas, this record-setting run is coming to a close, but the preview confirms that Taylor and Redondo are going to go out with a bang.
Nightwing #116 arrives in comic shops everywhere on July 17, 2024.
