Ben 10, Captain Planet, and 3 Other Classic Cartoon Comics Announced

The Dynamite Entertainment and Warner Bros. Discovery partnership has profited handsomely. Thus far, Dynamite has published hit comics based on Thundercats, Space Ghost, and PowerPuff Girls, with a Jonny Quest comic on the way. Now, the publisher has confirmed five more series based on classic cartoons, including Ben 10 and Captain Planet.

“This is exciting on so many levels,” notes Dynamite CEO Nick Barrucci in a press release from San Diego Comic-Con 2024. “First, to be recognized as doing a great job. Both with critical acclaim and sales, with the work that the creative and editorial teams (are) putting into this is rewarding.”

The five new series confirmed by Dynamite Entertainment represent a wide variety of genres and a vast span of animation history. Ben 10 is notable as the most recent Warner Bros. Discovery property to be adapted. The other four are animated series produced by Hanna-Barbera. They are Captain Planet, The Herculoids, Thundarr the Barbarian, and Dynomutt & Blue Falcon.

Ben 10 was a superhero series about a boy who changed into different aliens with a special watch. Similarly, Dynomutt & Blue Falcon is a more comedic superhero series based around a clumsy robot dog and his bird-themed partner. Conversely, Captain Planet is a more serious (if campy) cartoon about an environmentalist superhero.

The Herculoids is a unique mix of fantasy and science fiction. The show centers around a family of space barbarians who defend their home with the aid of their giant monster friends. Finally, Thundarr the Barbarian is a post-apocalyptic fantasy where magic has reawakened in a weird world built on the ruins of our own.

Thus far, only one creator has been announced as tied to the new series. Author Tom Sniegoski, most famous for his work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, will write The Herculoids. Further information on the series’ creative teams and release dates is expected soon.
