The filmmakers really need to show how everyone feels about Superman in the sequel, and they know this. David Goyer previously said in an interview: “Zack and I have had conversations… but there would be a cause and effect. And that would extend to the collateral damage that happened, and to what other countries feel about the fact Superman calls America his home. Man of Steel doesn’t exist in a vacuum.”

So, does everyone automatically hate him because of the destruction? If so, that certainly makes it easier for them to root for Batman, Lex Luthor, or whomever he may be fighting. People don’t want to root against Batman, but this is allegedly Superman’s movie so he has to be the hero. Or does the world love Superman? Do they see what he did in Man of Steel as the right thing and their savior? This makes it easier for Luthor to detest him, and potentially Batman since people could see him as a “human copy cat” of Superman. I worry that this sequel is setting itself up to once again cannibalize the building of supporting characters to just focus on the main players.
