Masters of the Universe Adds Origins, Deluxe and Masterverse Figures for 2021

Big news came for toy fans today out of the virtual Power-Con Masters of the Universe action figures panel. The Origins line, which recreates the ’80s figures adding new articulation, expands in major ways with new Deluxe figures and vehicles. The Minis line will expand. And an all new line for fans of the Classics series called Masterverse looks to incorporate the upcoming new animated series and more.

Origins adds two versions of Skeletor’s big cat Panthor, in both fuzzy and non-fuzzy editions. The Land Shark vehicle returns, upsized, with the same chomping feature it always had. And action features return to the figures themselves as part of the new Deluxe line. First up: a spring-loaded Ram Man, Battle Armor He-Man and Skeletor, and Clamp Champ with capture claw. They’ll run $5 more than the basic figures at $19.99, although a Roboto with working gears and mouth fits in the regular series.

Minis expand with more Anti-Eternia black repaints, as well as boxed four-packs with dioramas and exclusive repaints. Red Beast comes with Snake Mountain, and concept Ram Man for Castle Grayskull. Vehicles for the little guys include Roton and the Road Ripper.

But the biggest “Revelation” of all was for an all-new retail line aimed at fans of the Classics series, which fans believed finished under Super7. (Super7 still reuses the basic body type for other lines like Conan and ThunderCats.) Mattel’s team refused to reveal much about this new Masterverse line, except that it will highlight characters from Kevin Smith’s upcoming Netflix cartoon, and be in a 7-inch scale similar to Classics. They hinted but would not confirm that parts may continue to be swappable with prior figures. Packaging mock-ups revealed hint that Moss Man — voiced by OG Skeletor Alan Oppenheimer –might come sooner than later. And given the name, it could encompass more aspects of the MOTU Multiverse. Quantities for all lines are anticipated to be ample.
