Adding splashes of color to specialized Star Wars Clone Troopers may have been one of Lucasfilm’s most brilliant marketing decisions for the prequels. It has allowed a constant stream of repaints and specializations among the action figures, and plenty more are on the way to allow fans to build up their Clone ranks as much as they can afford to. Hasbro revealed this morning two new box sets to bolster the collections of those who just can’t get enough of the Jango Fett copies loyal to the Chancellor of the Republic.
Clone Show
First up, for Target, comes a Black Series two-pack. Officially, these figures are dubbed Clone Trooper Lieutenant and 332nd Ahsoka’s Clone Trooper. The Lieutenant, however, is clearly a Phase I Trooper circa Attack of the Clones/The Clone Wars era, with blue highlights. Ahsoka’s Trooper is a Phase II former 501st with helmet repainted to resemble Ahsoka Tano’s orange skin color. (Frankly, that’s a little weird if you think about it too much, but Maul had his Mandalorian troops do the same kind of thing first.)
Each figure includes a removable helmet, authentic actor likeness, and a long and short blaster apiece. The set retails for $44.99 — a $5 discount when compared to buying two Clones in that scale separately — and will go up for preorder tomorrow, November 29, at 1 p.m. on Target’s site. Expect them on store shelves in spring
For the 3-3/4 inch Vintage Collection, a four pack will build those armies even more quickly. These are all Phase II troops as seen in Revenge of the Sith. Two plain white Clones join one from the 501st (Vader’s youngling-killers) and one of Ahsoka’s 332nd. It’s unclear whether or not their helmets will be removable, but we do know this set goes up for preorder at Hasbro Pulse 11/29 at 1 p.m. Eastern, for $54.99. It hits ShopDisney at a later, undetermined date, with summer delivery expected.
