It’s been almost a decade since the movie, but NECA‘s long-ago-announced action figures based on Michael Dougherty‘s Krampus are set to hit stores this fall. Once a vaguely known mythological figure from Alpine folklore, Krampus’ popularity exploded with the rise of the Internet, and he’s been featured in animated shows and independent action figure lines. Dougherty, who made a name for himself creating a new seasonal demon, Sam, for Halloween in his movie Trick ‘r Treat, seemed like a natural to make the inevitable big-budget horror flick for the Christmas creature.
Krampus? He Barely Knew Us!
NECA’s not just making the Krampus himself, though. They’re also delivering one of his nastiest minions, the man-eating jack-in-the-box Der Klown. Both figures are technically “7-inch scale,” which in practice makes Krampus 10 inches tall and Der Klown 10 inches long. All that extra plastic adds to the cost, as Krampus runs about $99.99 and Der Klown $69.99. But they’ll officially make for some of the coolest holiday horror displays ever, and that’s hard to put a price on.
Krampus will come with two separate tongues (one containing a poseable wire), metal chains, seven swappable hands, and “over 10x trinket accessories you can hang on his chains, Krampus bell in box, Krampus bell in wrapping, and that iconic snow globe with the Engel’s family house inside.” Der Klown includes three interchangeable mouths, the feet and ankles of his latest swallowed victim, two neck ruffles, and a handkerchief. If these sell well, there are more creepy creatures from the film who could also see plastic form in the future — NECA previously teased prototypes of some of the smaller helpers who could come in an accessory pack.
