Having already made the werewolf and nightmare demon from An American Werewolf in London, NECA‘s actually making David (David Naughton) and Jack (Griffin Dunne) in a two-pack. Horror movie toy lines don’t often make figures of just the regular human characters in the film, so this one comes as a bit of a surprise. Naturally, there’s a slight monstrous twist that may sell them better than if they were completely normal.
Heads up
Through the use of extra parts, David can become his nightmare version by switching out his head. Jack can switch out his jacket, arms, and two bonus heads to represent his increasing deterioration into a zombie. Considering they basically use the same body parts when they’re in generic human form, most collectors will likely opt to do that.
For those who don’t know and haven’t seen the movie, David doesn’t realize he’s a potential werewolf until his friend Jack dies after an animal attack, then comes back in ever-decaying undead shape to haunt him in visions. Jack tells David that as he survived the attack from a werewolf, and warns him that he needs to kill himself before the full moon, or more innocent people will die, and Jack will remain in undead limbo. David doesn’t want to believe him, but inevitably finds himself transforming, in a masterful special effects sequence that would inspire Michael Jackson to hire director John Landis to make “Thriller.” If NECA’s diving back into this license, there’s a better than average chance we see a mid-transformation David figure next.
Estimated shipping for this two-pack is in October, with a probable price point around $80. Take a look at the promotional photos below, and decide whether or not that’s a price you’re willing to pay. (It’s certainly easier than the price David paid!)
