SDCC 2024: NECA Makes Sesame Street Toys for Big Kids

Sesame Street is a brand for kids. This is something we’ve known as long as we’ve been alive, but it’s been going since 1969, so the first group of fans have long since become adults. Will adults want to buy adult collectibles based on their favorite kids’ show? NECA is counting on it. As of Comic-Con preview night 2024, they revealed both Toony and Ultimate versions of Sesame Street action figures.

Three! Three Ultimates! Aah aah aah!

NECA has made figures of nearly every famous movie vampire in filmdom thus far, so Count Von Count might just be a natural. He’ll be joined in the Ultimate line by Bert and Ernie, with accessories like a street sign, rubber duckie, framed pictures, extra heads, and more. It’s not yet clear if the NECA letters will be included.

In the Toony line, Bert and Ernie are joined by Oscar the Grouch rather than the Count. Accessories and articulation are a lot more limited in these figures, but they’ll also be considerably cheaper.

There are a lot of potential choice to lead this line into the future. Big Bird is larger-sized than most, so maybe expect him later, once the line is a proven success. Not that there’s much of a chance it won’t be — how many of you shed tears of joy just looking at these pictures?

Ultimates will include bonus heads, hands, and multiple accessories, with extra sculpting detail applied to make the hard plastic look like felt. Toonies will be much smoother, but suitable for fans who just want to display renditions of these characters in one pose.

More details will come when we talk to NECA later this week. Until then, enjoy sweeping the clouds away…
