As revealed at Comic-Con, McFarlane Toys‘ deluxe Dark Knight Returns Batman is set to go up for preorders this Friday, August 16th. And he’s bringing a few Collector Edition allies with him.
Miller Time
The Batman is the clear highlight here, and likely to go fast despite the number of Dark Knight Returns figures that have preceded him. With battle damage, interchangeable masked and unmasked heads, multiple hands, and batarang, he also includes a large street light for display beneath. Some of McFarlane’s deluxe figures don’t always seem worth the upcharge, but this one surely will be.
Also up for preorder at the same time is Green Lantern. Which one? Well, that’s complicated. It’s one body, with two possible heads: Tomar-Re and Abin Sur. It comes with both; you choose which to display him as. Or, as McFarlane would likely prefer, buy two. Four extra hands and four additional accessories come with them. They’re comic-based, but look closely at Abin Sur and tell us he doesn’t bear some resemblance to Temuera Morrison in the movie.
New 52 Huntress comes with more than one might expect: a fabric cape, three different face sculpts — here’s hoping that’s the worst one in the image — and her signature crossbow, which Warner Bros. thankfully has no issues with like they do guns. As you might also have guessed, there’ll be four extra hands.
Expect preorders to appear at all your favorite online outlets, with a probable price point in the $30-$40 range.
McFarlane’s Collector Edition line appears to be a way to spread costs out over the entire line, allowing for some of the basic figures to stay at a $20 price point while plussing some up with bonuses to make the increase feel worth it. As an extra bonus, that Green Lantern body can and probably will see reuse down the line for other characters.
