Dave Bautista Could Join Fantasy Island Remake

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) has entered talks to join the film version of Fantasy Island, based on the 1970s TV series of the same name. If all goes as planned, the actor will be playing “a former guest who is still on the island against his will and who wants to expose Roarke and the island’s magical secrets.”

The original program ran from 1977 to 1984 on ABC and starred the late Ricardo Montalban. He portrayed Mr. Roarke, the proprietor of an island resort in the Pacific Ocean. Roake also claimed to be able to fulfill any visitor’s wildest fantasy for a large lump sum. However, these fantasies rarely turn out the way the guests had initially hoped. Michael Pena (Ant-Man and the Wasp) is starring as Roarke in the upcoming film, which is being distributed by Sony and produced by Blumhouse Productions.

Jeff Wadlow (Truth or Dare) is directing from a script he co-wrote with Chris Roach and Jillian Jacobs. The film is being described as “a tonal mix of Westworld meets Cabin in the Woods.” Given Blumhouse’s track record for horror films like Get Out and Insidious, it’s safe to assume that this new take on Fantasy Island will be much darker than any previous incarnation.

Ever since Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn was fired from the franchise by Disney this past summer, Bautista hasn’t been shy about expressing his disapproval with the studio’s decision. He bluntly declared that he wouldn’t return to the series if Gunn’s script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 wasn’t used. Earlier this week, Bautsita voiced his eagerness to join the director’s recently announced Suicide Squad film for DC. With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 currently in a state of limbo, it’s no surprise that the actor is looking for new projects to fill his schedule.
