Sony Reveals New Banner for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

With just over one month to go until Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse hits theaters, Sony has unveiled a new banner for the upcoming film. The six titular Spider-Men and Spider-Women perch atop a construction crane in the new image. And they’re ready to fight any inter-dimensional threats against New York City.

We’ve known for a while that the film will focus on Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) and Peter Parker (Jake Johnson). However, it’s not clear how the remaining four characters fit into the story. On the far left is Peter Porker / Spider-Ham, who was was created by Tom DeFalco and Mark Armstrong in 1983. The character has largely been the butt of several jokes since his first appearance. But on the other hand, this makes comedian John Mulaney a fitting choice to play him in the film.

Spider-Man Noir is also visible in the new art. Unlike his comic book counterpart, Spider-Man Noir is sporting a black trench coat and matching fedora. Nicolas Cage has cited Humphrey Bogart as an influence on his voice for the character. Knowing that, it’s logical to have his appearance mimic that of Bogart’s famous role in Casablanca.

Rounding out the cast of web slingers are Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) and Peni Parker (Kimiko Glenn). Spider-Gwen hails from an alternate universe where Gwen Stacy was bitten by the radioactive spider instead of Peter. In that world, Peter develops a crush on Gwen’s Spider-Woman persona. Recent footage has indicated that she’ll be the subject of Miles’ affections in the film. Meanwhile, Peni Parker is a character who made her debut in the Edge of the Spider-Verse miniseries in 2014. She is the pilot of the anime-inspired mech, SP//dr, which is operated via a psychic link.

The poster follows yesterday’s release of a new TV spot for the film. In addition to new footage, the one-minute clip notably highlights one of Miles’ superpowers not shared by Peter. You can check out the banner below, then let us know what you think in the comments!
