Zoe Saldana Says She Is “Proud Of Disney” For Rehiring James Gunn

James Gunn’s dismissal from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 angered fans who supported the director. After Gunn’s departure, Zoe Saldana was one of the actors who advocated for Gunn’s return. She and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy cast signed a public letter urging Disney to reconsider its choice. Now, Saldana told Entertainment Tonight that she is “happy” with Disney’s decision to rehire Gunn for the upcoming sequel.

“I’m proud of him, I’m happy that he’s coming back,” said Saldana. “I’m so proud of Disney, actually, that all the leaders right now behind that big corporation decided to lead by example, and spreading the word and the message of redemption is important.”

Saldana also spoke about recent box office champion Captain Marvel and Brie Larson. After declaring her love for the movie, Saldana shared her support for Brie Larson and “movies with female leads”.

“I loved it so much. I’m so proud of her, I’m so proud of Marvel Studios,” added Saldana. “I’m also so happy that the public received it and they really supported it, because that was the main part of this whole equation. We need to go and support these movies with female leads in order for our corporations to understand that there is business in investing in female narratives.”

Gunn is also slated to write and direct The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. later this year. After the end of Gunn’s commitment, production for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will reportedly begin in 2021.
