Michelle Yeoh Joins the Avatar Sequels

The forthcoming Avatar sequels just added another cast member, and she’s sure to kick butt. Michelle Yeoh is joining James Cameron’s follow-ups to his hit 2009 film, per its official Twitter account. In the sequels, she will portray scientist Dr. Karina Mogue. You can see the announcement below, which has gotten some great feedback on social media.

Yeoh got her star status way back in the ’90s with films like Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Stars and Supercop. She also has a recurring role in CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Discovery and she was one of the starring players in Crazy Rich Asians and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Yeoh still likes to do some fighting, as she recently demonstrated in the martial arts film, Master Z: Ip Man Legacy.

“Throughout her career, Michelle has always created unique and memorable characters,” said Cameron in a statement.  “I look forward to working with Michelle to do the same thing on the Avatar sequels.”

The first of the Avatar sequels will arrive on December 18, 2020.
