Why the Russos Cut Katherine Langford From Avengers: Endgame

Warning: There are massive spoilers ahead for Avengers: Endgame!

13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford was one of the late additions to Avengers: Endgame. However, she was mysteriously absent from the film. Co-directors Anthony and Joe Russo recently explained why when they visited the HappySadConfused podcast. According to the Russos, Langford would have portrayed a teenage version of Morgan, Tony Stark’s daughter, through an Infinity Gauntlet-generated vision.

“There was an idea that we had that Tony was going to go into the metaphysical way station that Thanos goes in when he snapped his fingers. And that there was going to be a future version of his daughter in that way station,” said Joe Russo.

“The intention was that his future daughter, because these films are dealing with magic, his future daughter forgave him and sort of gave him peace to go,” continued Russo. “And the idea felt resonant. But it was just too many ideas in an overly complicated movie.”

However, test audiences came away confused because the film only introduced the younger version of Morgan.

“What we realized about it was we didn’t feel an emotional association with the adult version of his daughter,” noted Anthony Russo. “So it wasn’t ringing to us and resonating with us on an emotional level.”

Regardless, this seems like an ideal selection for the eventual Endgame deleted scenes.

How do you feel about Langford’s role in Avengers: Endgame going to the cutting room floor? Should Morgan Stark carry on her father’s legacy in a future film? Would you have rather seen this moment included in the final film? Let us know in the comments below!
