Well, James Cameron’s Avatar reclaimed the first spot as the highest-grossing movie of all time at the global box office. Earlier this week, the sci-fi blockbuster was re-released in China to help movie theaters resume activity following a long hiatus due to the COVID-19 situation. Chinese movie theaters started screening Avatar on Friday. Since then, they hauled in $12.3M (via Deadline), topping $2.802B and passing Avengers: Endgame‘s $2.797B, which now goes down to the second spot.
As soon as the news broke out, directors Anthony and Joseph Russo took up to their socials to congratulate James Cameron, the same way he did when it was his turn to do it.

On an interesting note, Disney owns both the intellectual property for Avatar and Endgame. Actress Zoe Saldana is the only one to have starred in both movies. She portrayed Neytiri in 2009’s blockbuster and then Gamora in the last installment of the Avengers franchise.
