It remains to be seen if Matt Reeves has indeed chosen Robert Pattinson headline The Batman. But regardless of who dons the cape and cowl, it sounds like the Dark Knight will square off against a few very familiar foes when the reboot rolls into theaters.
The Hollywood Reporter recently sent out the latest edition of its Heat Vision newsletter. And if they’re to be believed, Reeves is looking to feature an entire cavalcade of villains in his film. Two of them, however, are no strangers to moviegoers:
“Matt Reeves is still tweaking his script, which is rumored to have at least two villains, the Penguin being one of them, according to sources (one person is telling us there will be around half-a-dozen villains!). We’re hearing of another purrfect character making an appearance in the script as well.”

THR doesn’t mention Catwoman by name, but the use of the word “purrfect” makes it a dead giveaway. Although this is only a rumor, it’s strange that Reeves might be opting to use villains that have already shown up in a film together. Sure, Christopher Nolan had no problem recycling the likes of Joker, Two-Face, Bane, and Catwoman in The Dark Knight trilogy. But seeing the same villainous pairing utilized in Batman Returns might feel like too much of a retread for some.
Deathstroke was originally expected to be The Batman’s primary antagonist when Ben Affleck was still involved with the project. Joe Manganiello even appeared as the character in a Justice League post-credits scene to tease his expanded role in the film. But with Affleck gone, it seems like Manganiello won’t get to play Slade Wilson again anytime soon.
