Daisy Ridley Discusses Rey’s Growth In The Rise of Skywalker

Rey has come a long way since her introduction in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. She’s gone from a typical junk collector into a masterful would-be Jedi. Fans will see just how far she has come in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Daisy Ridley recently spoke with Vanity Fair about Rey’s evolution, and embracing the Force. Apparently, there was a special look to use for that.

“I literally visualize it,” explained Ridley. “When I was lifting rocks I was visualizing the rocks moving. And then I was like, ‘Oh, my God, I made it happen!’ And obviously there’s loads of rocks on strings, so, no, I didn’t. But I visualize that it’s really going on.”

There’s a glimpse of such power in the newest trailer for The Rise of Skywalker, which is below. She runs in the desert as a First Order ship pursues her. Then she suddenly strikes, leaping into the air with lightsaber in hand, ready to deliver a devastating blow. Ridley had nothing but praise for this moment as well, showing off Rey’s determination and focus.

“It’s nice having that shot at the beginning of the teaser,” added Ridley. “Because I think it’s quite a good visual representation of where she is now: confident, calm, less fearful. It’s still sort of overwhelming but in a different way. It feels more right – less than inevitable and more like there’s a focus to the journey.”

Vanity Fair also released a number of new images from The Rise of Skywalker. One that stands out is Rey facing off against Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) once again. This time around, she’s more determined than ever to concluding their battle – a far cry from their skirmish in The Force Awakens.

Fans will have to wait a bit to see how it all unfolds, as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker opens on December 20.
