Although Spider-Man was noticeably absent from Marvel’s Phase 4 plans at Comic-Con, the webslinger’s latest film has hit an important milestone. Via Deadline, Spider-Man: Far From Home has crossed $1 billion at the worldwide box office. That makes it the first Spider-Man movie to reach that plateau.
Domestically, Far From Home has approximately $333 million, placing it just behind Spider-Man: Homecoming ($334.2M) and Spider-Man 3 ($336.5M). Only Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 had bigger hauls in the US, with $403.7 million and $373.5 million, respectively. Internationally, Far From Home has $672 million, including $204 million from China alone.
It’s worth noting that Deadline’s report also states “media reports that FFH hitting the $1B milestone would see film rights to the character revert to Marvel are entirely false, Deadline has confirmed.”

That was likely in response to stories that Far From Home’s $1 billion mark would automatically trigger a sequel. Marvel Studios and Sony previously agreed to co-produce two Spider-Man movies, while allowing Spidey to appear in Captain America: Civil War as well as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. There is speculation that Sony and Marvel have already renewed their pact, but it remains unconfirmed.
Far From Home‘s mid-credits scene definitely appeared to set the stage for a sequel. Perhaps that project will be announced at the upcoming D23 convention. Alternately, Sony may choose to announce its plans at a later date.
