Paramount has been trying to get a new Dungeons & Dragons film off the ground for years. Unfortunately, the movie just can’t seem to escape the clutches of development hell. Regardless, the studio will continue to try their luck with a new pair of filmmakers in charge. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley have entered talks to direct the film.
As screenwriters, Goldstein and Daley penned the scripts for Horrible Bosses and The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. They also worked on the screenplay for Spider-Man: Homecoming along with four other writers. Goldstein and Daley made their directorial debut in 2015 with the reboot of the Vacation franchise. Their most recent effort is Game Night, which came out last year. Warner Bros. also hired them in 2018 to direct the standalone Flash movie set in the DC Extended Universe. However, it was reported earlier this month that they are no longer involved with that project.

Previously, The Lego Batman Movie director Chris McKay was going to introduce Dungeons & Dragons to a new generation of moviegoers. But after being attached for about a year and a half, this new report confirms that he and the studio have parted ways. THR notes that McKay is moving on to direct Ghost Draft, which will star Chris Pratt. McKay is also supposedly still attached to make a Nightwing standalone feature for Warner Bros. at some point. Unfortunately, its been a while since we’ve heard any new info about the status of that film.
Michael Gilio is writing the Dungeons & Dragons screenplay. Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis will produce the film through Hasbro’s AllSpark Pictures banner.
