Ryan Reynolds Teases a Meeting With Marvel Studios

Now that Disney owns 20th Century Fox’s IP, Marvel can finally try their hand at the X-Men and Fantastic Four. The studio has indicated that new films featuring those characters are still a ways off, presumably until after Phase Four wraps up in 2021. Despite this, it looks like Ryan Reynolds might be trying to get a jump on Deadpool’s presence in the MCU.

Reynolds surprised a lot of fans earlier today when he tweeted a picture of himself visiting the Marvel Studios offices. He joked that he was trying out for another character, but it seems fairly obvious why he’d be there. You can check out his post for yourself below.

Kevin Feige and Disney CEO Bob Iger have previously expressed an interest in continuing Fox’s Deadpool franchise under the Marvel Studios banner. However, Reynolds’ photo serves as our strongest evidence yet that this might actually happen. Back in July, Deadpool 2 director David Leitch admitted that Disney still hadn’t contacted him about a potential third installment.

Regardless of who directs the film, screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are still kicking around ideas for the next sequel. During a recent interview with io9, they shared their excitement about possibly entering the larger MCU landscape…so long as the Merc with a Mouth doesn’t have to watch his language.

“The plan and the hope is that Marvel allows us to continue Deadpool in his R-rated universe that he lives in and also, hopefully over time, we get to play a little bit in the MCU sandbox as well,” said Wernick.

“Marvel’s a rich universe of both heroes and also, wonderfully, villains,” added Reese. “So we would love to see Deadpool enter that universe in a fun way. It’s just about figuring out how and when.”
