The Penguin is resuming production
According to Variety, The Penguin will be resuming production after Thanksgiving now that the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike has officially ended. The series was originally supposed to debut in spring 2024 but is now eyeing a fall 2024 release instead.
Consisting of eight episodes, The Penguin takes place days after the events of The Batman. Along with Farrell, the series stars Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone, Clancy Brown as Salvatore Maroni, Michael Zegen as Alberto Falcone, and Michael Kelly as Johnny Vitti. Theo Rossi, Rhenzy Feliz, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, James Madio, Scott Cohen, Carmen Ejogo, François Chau, David H. Holmes, and Craig Walker have also been cast in undisclosed roles.
Created by Lauren LeFranc, The Penguin is executive produced by The Batman director Matt Reeves, along with Farrell, LeFranc, Dylan Clark, Craig Zobel, Daniel Pipski, and Bill Carraro, while Rafi Crohn is a co-executive producer. Zobel is directing the first three episodes of the series.
A sequel to The Batman, meanwhile, is also in the works. Reeves is returning to direct The Batman — Part II, while Robert Pattinson will reprise his role as The Dark Knight. With a script co-written by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, The Batman — Part II is currently scheduled to release on October 3, 2025.
