Earlier this month, Todd Phillips’ Joker movie surpassed all expectations and quickly became the highest grossing R-rated film of all time. Even without Batman in tow, Joaquin Phoenix’s Clown Prince of Crime struck a chord with moviegoers. HBO Max certainly noticed the film’s impact. Warner Bros. upcoming streaming service may not be launching until May 2020, but it already has Joker lined up.
HBO Max’s official twitter account confirmed that Joker will be on the service next year.
It’s not all about the heroes, either. Todd Phillips’ @JokerMovie is shattering box office records, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time. Don’t miss Joker in theaters and it will be available to stream by HBO on HBO Max in 2020.

This is only part of the equation for HBO Max. According to Warner Bros. HBO Max will also be the home to every live-action DC movie from the last 40 years. Granted, that includes a lot of Batman and Superman movies. But it also means that films like Constantine, Swamp Thing, and even Green Lantern will have a home on HBO Max. However, few would have predicted that Joker will be a bigger draw than any of the second string heroes.
