The Matrix 4 Adds Jonathan Groff to the Cast

According to Collider, Jonathan Groff is the newest addition to the cast of The Matrix 4. The nature of his role is being kept under wraps at this time.

Groff currently stars as FBI agent Holden Ford on Netflix’s Mindhunter. He also voiced Kristoff in Frozen in 2013 and recently reprised the role in Frozen II, which opened last month. Previously, Groff headlined HBO’s Looking and he also had a recurring role on Glee. Aside from his film and TV credits, Groff is also recognized for appearing in several notable Broadway productions. He earned Tony Award nominations for his performances in Spring Awakening in 2007 and Hamilton in 2016.

Lana Wachowski is returning to the director’s chair for The Matrix 4 after helming the first three installments with her sister, Lily. She’s also co-writing the screenplay alongside Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchell. It’s still anyone’s guess as to what the trio are planning for the next chapter in the franchise. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, and Jessica Henwick have already been cast. They will join series veterans Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Jada Pinkett-Smith, who will reprise their roles as Neo, Trinity, and Niobe.

The Matrix 4 is still without a release date, but it may begin filming next year.
