Paul Feig Wants To Crossover His Ghostbusters Movie With Afterlife

Ghostbusters: Afterlife will return to the world of the original Ghostbusters films later this year. Regardless, director Paul Feig wouldn’t mind seeing characters from his 2016 Ghostbusters reboot crossover with the original universe.

Feig recently spoke to journalists at the TCA about the possibility of his female Ghostbusters team showing up in Ghostbusters: Afterlife’s world. In response, Feig was hopeful.

What’s so great, in the comic book world, they’ve done a lot of crossover ones where there’s like an interdimensional rip and our team joins up with the original Ghostbusters,” explained Feig via Slashfilm. “So the fact that that’s already been laid and made comic book canon, anything could happen so who knows.”

“I would love to see that team come back,” continued Feig. “We had so much fun making that movie, for whatever controversy it caused. The fact that so many kids love that, that we won the Nickelodeon Best Movie of the Year Award that year makes me very happy.”

The 2016 Ghostbusters film only made $229 million worldwide against a $144 million budget. Because of that, Sony isn’t likely to bring those characters back anytime soon.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife will star McKenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard and Paul Rudd. It arrives in theaters on July 10.
