Back in 1994, director Alex Provas brought James O’Barr’s comic, The Crow, with the late Brandon Lee in the title role. Three sequels and a TV series followed, but it’s been all downhill from there. Now, Bloody Disgusting is reporting that The Crow reboot is “back in active development.” However, the project will still need a new writer and director. The report also notes that Davis Films, Highland Film Group and Electric Shadow are still attached “to finance, produce and distribute the film.”
Sony previously had Jason Momoa set to play Eric Draven/The Crow, with director Corin Hardy. That remake was originally set to hit theaters in October 2019, but both Momoa and Hardy left the project before it could begin filming. Sony subsequently pulled The Crow from its schedule.
In the original comic and movie, Draven and his fiancé are brutally murdered by criminals. But a mystical crow allows Draven to rise from his grave and pursue vengeance against the men who killed him.

The last Crow movie was released in 2005: The Crow: Wicked Prayer. That film was released direct-to-DVD, and featured Terminator 2‘s Edward Furlong in the title role. Prior to Momoa’s involvement with the remake, Boardwalk Empire‘s Jack Huston was briefly attached to play Draven. Nicholas Hoult and Jack O’Connell were also in contention for the role. However, there’s no word yet about who will play The Crow in the latest reboot.
