Jim Carrey Shares His Robotnik Thoughts In New Sonic Featurette

Over the last few decades, Jim Carrey has portrayed his fair share of manics including Ace Ventura, The Mask, and The Grinch. This Friday, Carrey will add another role to his lineup: the evil Dr. Ivo Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog.

To give fans an idea of what’s in store, Paramount has debuted a new behind-the-scenes featurette, where Carrey talks more about the “Eggman.” First, Carrey discusses how he got the call to play the role of Robotnik. But he also spoke about how he identified with the “madman” that pursues the speedy blue hero.

“Of course he has a 300 IQ, so it took me a week and a half to prepare,” quipped Carrey.

Carrey also spoke about the importance of Robotnik and how he’s in “zeitgeist with the character.” Additionally, Carrey brought up perhaps the most iconic part of Robotnik’s design — his facial hair.

“The mustache was ridiculous,” explained Carrey. “I wish I could grow it.”

Finally, he related to the experience of working with Sonic the Hedgehog as a whole.

“Being able to do a movie that brings a good memory back and connects with new generations with people…it was really amazing.”

Sonic the Hedgehog opens in theaters this Friday, February 14.
