Unlike some other recent movies, Sonic the Hedgehog had a chance to make some money in theaters before they shut down. Now that theaters are shut down over the coronavirus pandemic, Paramount is racing to bring the video game adaptation to digital outlets.
Paramount has announced that Sonic the Hedgehog will hit digital on Tuesday, March 31. However, the Blu-ray and DVD release will still drop on Tuesday, May 19. Additionally, 4K Ultra HD & Blu-ray combo pack will come with a limited edition comic. And the story of the comic will feature Sonic and The Donut Lord AKA Sheriff Tom Wachowski. Ben Schwartz voiced Sonic in the film, alongside James Marsden as Sheriff Tom, and Jim Carrey as Doctor Robotnik.
For this release, Schwartz recorded audio commentary with Sonic director Jeff Fowler. There will also be an animated short called “Around the World in 80 Seconds,” as well as deleted scenes that didn’t make the theatrical cut.

Carrey is also heavily featured in the bloopers, as well as the “For the Love of Sonic,” and “Building Robotnik with Jim Carrey” videos. Schwartz gets the spotlight in the “Sonic on Set” featurette, while “The Blue Blur: Origins of Sonic” will explore the history of Sega’s iconic hero. Finally, the “Speed Me Up” music video will also be included.
