Earlier this month, Jungle Cruise stars Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt lined up their next project together: Ball and Chain. Now, Ball and Chain is slated to skip movie theaters and head directly to Netflix.
Via The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix closed the deal to produce Ball and Chain earlier this week. The Big Sick‘s Emily V. Gordon will write the script. In the movie, Johnson and Blunt will portray a married couple near the end of their relationship. Their lives are changed forever when an errant meteor strike gives them superpowers. But those powers only work when the couple is together. Separably, they remain powerless.

Ball and Chain was first published as a four-issue comic in 1999 by Wildstorm’s Homage Comics imprint. The series was created by Scott Lobdell, Alé Garza, and Richard Bennett. Within the comic, the superhuman couple was Edgar and Mallory Bulson. But those names could be changed for the Netflix adaptation.
The Ball and Chain comic is currently out of print. However, the new movie will probably lead to new print and digital editions.
