Shazam! Writer Shares Unfilmed Script Pages to Encourage Black Lives Matter Donations

For almost two weeks now, the murder of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers has galvanized support for the Black Lives Matter movement. Now, Shazam! screenwriter Henry Gayden has joined the chorus of voices seeking social justice. Gayden recently took to Twitter to encourage donations to the various organizations associated with BLM. As an added bonus, he’s sharing pages from his Shazam! script that ultimately didn’t make it into the finished film.

Gayden announced that he plans to share a new page every day for the rest of the week. Collected under the title of “A Feat of Strength for a Feat of Strength,” the scenes are essentially reworkings of the montage where Freddy Freeman helps Billy Batson test his newfound superpowers. So far, Gayden has shared three pages from his original script, along with links to support Black Lives Matter, the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, and the Black Voters Matter Fund. You can check them out for yourself below.

After the success of the first film, Gayden will also return to pen the highly-anticipated sequel. Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema originally planned to release the follow-up on April 1, 2022. But because of COVID-19-related delays, Shazam! 2 will now hit theaters on November 4, 2022.
