Henry Cavill Says He Isn’t Shooting New Justice League Scenes

Yesterday, The Hollywood Reporter claimed that Zack Snyder is reassembling four key Justice League cast members next month to shoot new footage for his long-awaited cut of the DC team-up film. According to THR, the week-long shoot would reunite Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, and Ray Fisher for the first time since Justice League wrapped in 2017. But it looks like this report may not have been 100% accurate. Cavill recently told Collider that he won’t be reprising his role as Clark Kent/Superman for the upcoming reshoots.

Cavill was plugging his latest role in Netflix’s Enola Holmes when the Snyder Cut came up. Collider noted that their interview took place “shortly before” THR’s Justice League story was published. But when asked about the possibility of additional filming, Cavill left nothing to the imagination.

“Not shooting anything additional,” said Cavill. “No. It’s all stuff that has been already done. Obviously I don’t know how things are going to evolve and change and adapt depending on now a different length of movie and whatever may happen in post-production. Whatever lessons may be learned from what is it four years since Justice League came out? Four years’ worth of fan reaction. For me…I’m now just watching the party.”

It’s also a logistical impossibility for Cavill to make his way over to Justice League’s Los Angeles set in October. Right now, he’s in London filming The Witcher season 2, which apparently still has a few weeks left of production. Because the U.K.’s COVID-19 protocols require people to self-quarantine for two weeks after arriving in the country, his departure would hold up The Witcher’s filming schedule even more after it was forced to shut down production earlier this year.

In the meantime, Cavill is reportedly negotiating with Warner Bros. to return as Superman in a different capacity. However, no new deals have been announced yet.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League will premiere as a four-episode limited series on HBO Max in 2021.
