Earlier today, reports emerged that Denis Villeneuve’s remake of Dune has been pushed back to October 1, 2021. However, that was previously the release date for Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Industry observers predicted that the Dark Knight reboot would get a new release date. Now, Variety is confirming that The Batman will skip 2021 entirely. Instead, the new release date is March 4, 2022.
Regardless of that delay, there is one Warner Bros. blockbuster that’s moving up in the schedule. The Matrix 4 will now bow on December 22, 2021, instead of March 4, 2022. Both The Batman and The Matrix 4 recently resumed filming several months after the COVID-19 pandemic began.

Additionally, The Flash and Shazam! 2 will be pushed further down the line. November 4, 2022 is the new date for The Flash, while Shazam! 2 will hit theaters on June 2, 2023. Neither movie has started production yet.
Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam movie is also off the release schedule for now. It had been tipped for a December 22, 2021 release date. The Minecraft movie is also in limbo now, after vacating its March 3, 2022 date. Unless things improve with a viable COVID-19 vaccine, these won’t be the last movies to get pushed back.
