Natalie Portman Confirms Jane Foster’s Story In Thor: Love and Thunder

After a six year absence from the MCU, Natalie Portman contributed a brief Jane Foster voiceover for Avengers: Endgame. However, Portman will have a more formal MCU return in Thor: Love and Thunder. At last year’s Comic-Con, director Taika Waititi reintroduced Portman in Hall H and gave her Thor’s hammer, Mjölnir. In the comics, Jane became the new Thor after the Odinson was no longer worthy of Mjölnir. But according to Portman, that won’t be the only aspect of Jane’s story in the film.

“It’s based on the graphic novel of the Mighty Thor,” said Portman while speaking to Yahoo. “[Jane is] going through cancer treatment and is a superhero on the side.”

“I’m really excited. I’m starting to train, to get muscles,” added Portman. “If there can be all these female superheroes, the more of them they are, the better it is.”

Earlier this year, Waititi told Variety that he wasn’t sure if Jane’s cancer storyline would be included in the film.

“We don’t know,” said Waititi. “That comics run was a big inspiration and was an influence on the first few drafts. But at Marvel, we always change everything. I could say one thing right now, and in two years, it will be the complete opposite — or that thing won’t exist. We continue writing even in post-production.”

Thor: Love and Thunder will hit theaters on February 11, 2022.
