Simu Liu Announces That Marvel’s Shang-Chi Has Wrapped Filming

Not even a pandemic can keep a good superhero down. While Marvel Studios’ Black Widow and Eternals continue to push back release dates, they’ve added another to the pipeline. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings just wrapped production, as announced semi-cryptically by star Simu Liu on Instagram.

We made a baby!!! We can’t wait to introduce him to the world in 9 months… #WRAPPED

Nine months seems like an optimistic timeframe for release, but July 9th is still the current date set. If that holds, it will be two months after Black Widow and four months before Eternals. Much of the plot and even character names remain under wraps, though it will not be connected to the character of Fu Manchu as the original comics were. Instead, the story will deal with the real Mandarin (Tony Leung), leader of the Ten Rings terror organization, who was impersonated in Iron Man 3 by Ben Kingsley’s Trevor Slattery. Destin Daniel Cretton (Short Term 12), seen in the image above with Liu, directs.

Cretton also posted his own wrap picture, in front of a gigantic bluescreen.
