New Godzilla vs. Kong Footage Highlights Kong’s Soft Side

Aside from the titular kaiju, Godzilla vs. Kong features an all-star cast that includes the likes of Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, and Kyle Chandler. However, one character poised to steal the show is Jia, played by newcomer Kaylee Hottle. Last month, the film’s first trailer introduced Jia as the mysterious little girl who plays a key role in the monsters’ upcoming clash. Whatever her backstory is, she also happens to be the only person that Kong will communicate with. And thanks to a new teaser for the film, we have a better idea of how deep their bond goes.

Earlier today, Warner Bros. premiered some new footage from Godzilla vs. Kong on the film’s official Twitter account. The clip offers a fair amount of action, including some fresh shots of the aircraft carrier fight between the two beasts (many of which show Kong on the receiving end of a beatdown). But beyond this, it also shows Hottle’s character using a form of sign language to “speak” to Kong. You can check it out for yourself below.

Godzilla vs. Kong marks Hottle’s feature debut, so the film could very well be her big break in the industry. It’s also worth mentioning that Hottle herself comes from an all-Deaf family. With this, her casting can be considered a big win for the movement to increase disability representation in Hollywood.

Warner Bros. will release Godzilla vs. Kong in theaters and on HBO Max on March 31.
