Melissa Benoist may be about to leave Supergirl behind on TV, but there’s a new Girl of Steel coming to the big screen. Deadline is reporting that Sasha Calle has been cast as Supergirl in The Flash movie. She will also be the first Latina actress to play the role.
“I saw more than four hundred auditions,” said The Flash director Andy Muschietti in a statement. “The US, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia . The talent pool was truly amazing and it was very hard to make a decision, but we finally found an actress who was destined to play this role.”
Deadline notes that Muschietti, DC Films President Walter Hamada, and the other producers “were blown away by the actress’ toughness and vulnerability that she brought to the role.” The report also states that Calle had her chemistry read with Ezra Miller over Zoom.

Calle is best known for playing Lola Rosales on the soap opera, The Young and the Restless. Last year, she was a Daytime Emmy Award nominee for Outstanding Young Performer in a Drama series.
Additionally, Muschietti shared a video of the call where he told Calle that she was cast as Supergirl.
The Flash will hit theaters on November 4, 2022. Filming will begin later this year.
