Last month, Shazam!: Fury of the Gods lined up Helen Mirren for a villainous role as Hespera. Now, The Wrap is reporting that Lucy Liu will also play a villain in the film. According to the report, Liu’s part is Kalypso, the sister of Hespera and the daughter of Atlas.
Liu’s previous film credits include Kill Bill, Chicago, and two Charlie’s Angels movies. She also co-headlined Elementary on CBS, and recently appeared in Why Women Kill and Set It Up.
So far, the only other major addition to the cast is Rachel Zegler, the star of Steven Spielberg’s upcoming remake of West Side Story. Zegler is set to play a key role in the sequel to Shazam!, but further details about her character remain unrevealed.

Asher Angel and Zachary Levi will both be back as Billy Batson and his heroic counterpart, Shazam. Presumably, Jack Dylan Grazer’s Frederick “Freddy” Freeman will also return alongside Grace Fulton as Mary Bromfield, Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley, Ian Chen as Eugene Choi, and Jovan Armand as Pedro Peña.
Additionally, the mid-credits scene of Shazam! set up the return of Mark Strong’s Dr. Thaddeus Sivana. The enigmatic Mr. Mind approached Sivana in his cell and proposed an alliance.
David F. Sandberg is directing the film from a screenplay by Henry Gayden and Chris Morgan.
Shazam!: Fury of the Gods hits theaters on June 2, 2023.
