Yet another Dracula spinoff movie is in the works, and this one is filling out its cast with several recognizable faces. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that David Dastmalchian, Liam Cunningham, Aisling Franciosi, and Javier Botet have all joined the cast of Amblin’s Last Voyage of the Demeter.
The film draws influence from the chapter in Bram Stoker’s novel that recounts the titular ship’s ill-fated journey from Varna to Whitby, England. As readers will remember, Dracula stowed away on this vessel and gradually devoured its crew members until only one survivor remained. André Øvredal, who helmed 2019’s Scary Stories To Tell in the Dark, is directing the movie.
There are a number of different Dracula offshoots in the works right now, including Chloe Zhao’s “sci-fi western” take on the property and Chris McKay’s Renfield vehicle. However, Last Voyage of the Demeter has been in development for almost 20 years. Bragi Schut wrote the original draft of the screenplay way back in 2002. But now that the project has been given another chance, Amblin has enlisted Zak Olkewicz to update the story. Olkewicz recently penned the script for Sony’s Bullet Train, which hits theaters next year.

Javier Botet, who has experience playing otherworldly creatures in movies like It and Slender Man, is playing Dracula in the film. Cunningham is starring as the Demeter’s captain, while Dastmalchian will play his first mate, Wojchek. Meanwhile, Franciosi is playing another stowaway named Anna. Corey Hawkins previously joined the film earlier this year. The cast also includes Jon Jon Briones, Stefan Kapicic, Nikolai Nikolaeff, Woody Norman, Martin Furulund and Chris Walley.
Amblin hasn’t announced a release date for Last Voyage of the Demeter.
