Earlier this week, Warner Bros. narrowed down its picks to headline Batgirl to four finalists. However, the role was soon won by Leslie Grace, a singer who only recently made her big screen debut in the musical In the Heights. Now, the new big screen Batgirl has shared her response to the news. Grace also made sure to thank DC for welcoming her to the family.

Grace will portray Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Commissioner James Gordon. In the comics, Barbara is athletically gifted and she also has near perfect recall. Additionally, Barbara was inspired by both Batman and her father to become Batgirl. And over time, Barbara earned her place on Gotham City’s rooftops.
Birds of Prey screenwriter Christina Hodson wrote the script for Batgirl. Bad Boys For Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah will helm the film for HBO Max.
The Batgirl movie will likely begin filming later this year.
