Shinsuke Sato Will Direct Legendary’s Live-Action My Hero Academia

Kōhei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia is one of the most popular manga and anime series in the world. Now, the franchise is getting a live-action adaptation from Legendary Entertainment.

Via The Wrap, director Shinsuke Sato will helm the My Hero Academia movie. This film will be Sato’s English language directorial debut. However, Netflix subscribers may have seen his work on the Alice in Borderland series. He has also directed live-action adaptations of Kingdom, BleachInuyashiki, and I Am Hero.

My Hero Academia takes place in a world where superheroes are real, and almost everyone has a power (or “quirk”) of their own. Regardless, the lead character, Izuku Midoriya, is born without any powers of his own. However, Izuku’s idol, All Might, gives him a quirk of his own, and helps Izuku enroll in UA, an academy for superheroes.

Additionally, My Hero Academia features a large ensemble cast of characters. It’s likely that the movie will as well. For now, neither a production timetable or a screenwriter have been announced.
