Dune 3: Jason Momoa Teases Duncan Idaho’s Return

Despite his heroic sacrifice in 2021’s Dune, Jason Momoa wants Duncan Idaho back in the third installment.

Momoa spoke to Men’s Magazine, where he praised Dune: Part Two and teased a cut scene from the original that he wants brought back should he return in Dune 3.

“It’ll be a good future now if Duncan Idaho may have some sort of … You know what we did have? Oh man, I can’t actually say this. I’ll get in trouble. F—. Well, there was something that was really cool that went into the movie that didn’t make the first one, and it was pretty epic,” Momoa said. “I’ll try to get it back. I’ll try to get it back in the third one. And Duncan drinks Guinness, too.”

Momoa’s Duncan was the House Atreides swordmaster who mentored Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet). His death is foreseen by Paul through his troubling visions of the future. Later in the story when the Sardaukar soldiers attempt to capture Paul and Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), Duncan makes the fatal sacrifice to protect what’s left of House Atreides.

Dune Messiah

With the critical and commercial success of Dune: Part Two, a third installment is clearly in the cards at Warner Bros. Director Denis Villeneuve is currently developing the threequel script based on Frank Herbert‘s 1969 novel Dune Messiah which introduces a clone of Momoa’s Duncan. Though Villeneuve stated his intention to produce a different project before filming the next Dune, production company Legendary Entertainment says they’re ready to go as soon as he is.

“I think this is a movie where you know the word of mouth is going to carry it. It is a stupendous piece of filmmaking. There’s no other way to say it. I’ve just about run out of adjectives,” Legendary CEO Josh Grode said in an interview with CNBC. “We have to have all creative stakeholders aligned and support the vision. I think everybody is very excited and really enjoying this moment, and if Denis [Villeneuve] gets the script right and he feels that he can deliver another experience on par with what we’ve just completed, then I don’t see why not.”

Dune: Part Two is now playing in theaters.
