Dune featured no shortage of A-list performers who brought the characters from Frank Herbert’s novel to life. However, several major fixtures from the book were noticeably absent in the film, including Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, the younger brother of Beast Rabban and Baron Vladimir’s other nephew. Feyd’s omission was a surprise, since he serves as one of the novel’s primary villains. But now that Dune: Part Two is officially in the works, director Denis Villeneuve can confirm that he will definitely make an appearance in the sequel. Denis Villeneuve confirms.
In Herbert’s novel, Feyd-Rautha was Baron Vladimir’s chosen heir to lead House Harkonnen. Additionally, he proved to be a formidable opponent in combat. Villeneuve briefly discussed the character’s arrival in a recent interview with Empire. He also revealed that introducing Feyd in the second film was always the plan.
“Definitely,” said Villeneuve. “That’s a choice that I personally brought on. There was enough characters that were introduced in this first part, and it will be more elegant to keep Feyd for Part Two. It will be definitely a very, very important character in the second part.”

This won’t be the first time that Feyd-Rautha has shown up onscreen. In David Lynch’s 1984 adaptation of Dune, the character was played by a fresh-faced Sting, who at that point was still a member of The Police and hadn’t even released his first solo album yet. Matt Keeslar later played the role in SYFY’s Frank Herbert’s Dune miniseries in 2000.
Villeneuve previously claimed that Part Two won’t officially start production until next fall, although a producer recently suggested that cameras could start rolling as soon as July 2022. Whatever the case, the filmmakers have plenty of time to find an actor who can embody Feyd before the film reaches its 2023 premiere date.
Dune: Part Two will hit theaters on October 20, 2023.
