It’s been a long time since Joss Whedon gave an interview, particularly in the wake of his resignation from HBO Max’s The Nevers and the misconduct accusations made by Justice League cast members Ray Fisher and Gal Gadot. Whedon was hired to film Justice League‘s reshoots when Zack Snyder left to deal with a personal tragedy. Three years after that film’s disappointing box office, Fisher leveled charges that Whedon was abusive and unprofessional. Months later, Gadot said that Whedon had threatened her career when they disagreed on a scene. Now, via Heroic Hollywood, Whedon has offered his side of the story in a lengthy feature by New York Magazine. Joss Whedon calls.
According to Whedon, he cut many of Fisher’s scenes as Cyborg because he felt that his storyline “logically made no sense.” He also felt that Fisher’s acting was bad, but indicated that their conversations were friendly and respectful. Whedon added that none of Fisher’s claims were “either true or merited discussing.”
Whedon also offered his own explanation for why Fisher made his accusations against him.
“We’re talking about a malevolent force,” said Whedon. “We’re talking about a bad actor in both senses.”

Whedon also denied threatening Gadot’s career. He then suggested that she had misunderstood him because English is her second language.
“I don’t threaten people,” said Whedon. “Who does that?…English is not her first language, and I tend to be annoyingly flowery in my speech.”
According to Whedon, he told Gadot that if she wanted to get rid of a scene he had written then she would have to tie him to a railroad track and do it over his dead body.
“Then I was told that I had said something about her dead body and tying her to the railroad track,” recalled Whedon.
Gadot e-mailed New York Magazine her response to Whedon’s comments: “I understood perfectly.” Fisher declined to respond to New York Magazine.
Regardless, Whedon indicated that taking the Justice League gig was one of the biggest regrets of his life.
