Following his turns in Man of Steel and this year’s Thor: Love and Thunder, Russell Crowe is adding another comic book adaptation to his resume. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Crowe has signed on to appear in Sony’s upcoming Kraven the Hunter movie.
Crowe’s casting marks the first significant bit of news about Kraven since Aaron Taylor-Johnson was chosen to play the lead last year. Sony isn’t sharing any details about the nature of Crowe’s role. However, THR notes that many of the film’s main characters are Kraven’s family members. The report also reiterates that Taylor-Johnson signed a multi-picture deal with the studio.
Most recently, Crowe starred in Unhinged in 2020. He also had roles in True History of the Kelly Gang and Boy Erased. In 2019, he headlined the Showtime limited series The Loudest Voice. Marvel fans will next see him when Love and Thunder opens on July 8.

Kraven will be the next character to join Sony’s MCU-adjacent Spider-Man universe after Tom Hardy’s Venom and Jared Leto’s Morbius. The studio is also making headway on its Madame Web solo film, which recently cast Dakota Johnson as the lead. Other projects in the works include vehicles for Nightwatch, Jackpot, and a mystery female-centric film directed by Olivia Wilde. Additionally, Sony is developing a TV series featuring Silk.
J.C. Chandor is directing Kraven from a screenplay by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk. Franchise mainstays Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are returning to produce the film as well.
Kraven the Hunter will hit theaters on January 13, 2023.
