Christopher Abbott Cast As The Foreigner In Kraven the Hunter

Last week, The Many Saints of Newark‘s Alessandro Nivola joined Sony’s Kraven the Hunter film as the lead villain. Keep in mind, this is already a movie about Sergei Kravinoff, one of Spider-Man’s greatest villains, with a rumored role for the Chameleon as well. Now, there’s a fourth villain in the film. Deadline is reporting that Christopher Abbott has joined the cast as The Foreigner.

Deadline’s sources claim that “Abbott would play the film’s main villain, The Foreigner — one of Spider-Man’s bigger adversaries in the comics.” However, it’s a very large exaggeration to call him one of Spidey’s “bigger adversaries.” Within the Marvel Universe, The Foreigner is a high-end mercenary and assassin who was once married to Silver Sable. He definitely presents himself as refined and debonair. But among Spider-Man villains, he’s strictly C-list. Additionally, The Foreigner has no powers of his own. Instead, he’s in peak physical condition and extremely well-trained.

Abott is best known for his leading role in Catch-22, and he has also appeared in Possessor and Black Bear. He is also slated to star in Poor Things and The Crowded Room.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson will headline Kraven as the title character. Additionally Fred Hechinger is rumored to be playing Kraven’s half-brother, Dmitri Smerdyakov, a.k.a. the Chameleon. Ariana DeBose is believed to be playing Kraven’s lover, Calypso. Russell Crowe also has a role in the film, but details about his character have not been revealed.

Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk wrote the script for Kraven, which will be directed by J.C. Chandor.

Kraven the Hunter will hit theaters on January 13, 2023.
