Spider-Man: No Way Home Has Passed $800 Million Domestically

The theatrical run of Spider-Man: No Way Home is almost over, but the film had at least one more milestone in it. Over the weekend, No Way Home earned approximately $2 million, which was just enough for it to pass $800.5 million domestically. Only two other films have ever done that. In 2019, Avengers: Endgame pulled in $825 million in North America. However, the domestic record is still held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which earned $936 million in 2015 and early 2016.

Spidey’s latest film is tantalizingly close to Endgame‘s domestic numbers, but it probably won’t get too much closer. Sony Pictures has already released No Way Home digitally, and the Blu-ray release will follow on April 12. Also, the film only came in at #8 at this weekend’s box office. That’s very impressive for a film in its 15th week of release. But the demand for the movie in theaters has tapered off. The film’s worldwide total is currently around $1.888 billion dollars.

This weekend, a new box office champion was crowned. Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum’s The Lost City opened at #1 with $31 million. For the first time this month, The Batman fell to second place with $20.5 million. That brings Batman’s latest film to $332 million. The Indian-language movie, RRR, had an unexpectedly strong start with an opening weekend of $9.5 million. Sony’s Uncharted adaptation came in at number 4, with a new domestic total of $133.5 million. The anime film, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, came in at #5 in its second weekend with $4.58 million.

Looking ahead to April, Sony’s Morbius will be the next challenger for the box office throne this Friday. However, the Marvel-inspired film has terrible word of mouth heading into its release. On April 8, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Michael Bay’s Ambulance will open. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore will follow on April 15. And at some point in the next two weeks, No Way Home will fall out of the top ten.
