Corey Stoll, Cary Elwes, and Two Others Join Rebel Moon

As Rebel Moon’s start date looms closer, Zack Snyder has added a handful of new cast members to his samurai-flavored sci-fi epic. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Michiel Huisman, and Alfonso Herrera have all booked roles in the upcoming film.

Snyder previously cast Sofia Boutella to headline the movie as a woman living in a peaceful colony at the edge of the galaxy. When her world is threatened by a tyrannical ruler known as Belisarius, she travels to nearby planets to find allies who can help her people defend themselves. The roles for most of the new additions are being kept a secret for now. However, Elwes is confirmed to be playing the king of the galactic empire.

Elwes is still widely remembered for his role in The Princess Bride and his more recent turn in the Saw films. He has also had recurring roles in Stranger Things and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Meanwhile, Stoll played Darren Cross/Yellowjacket in Ant-Man in 2015 and has also appeared in House of Cards, The Strain, and Billions. Huisman is best known for playing Daario Naharis on Game of Thrones. Finally, Herrera has appeared in Netflix’s Sense8 and Ozark.

While Snyder is a big fan of lengthy runtimes, it sounds like Netflix is already planning to split Rebel Moon into two separate movies. And as with Snyder’s Army of the Dead, Netflix is already thinking about possible spinoffs.

Snyder is directing Rebel Moon from a script he co-wrote with Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad. The primary cast also includes Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Rupert Friend, and Stuart Martin. Production on the film will officially begin later this month.

Netflix hasn’t announced a premiere date for Rebel Moon.
